To all Mackay & District Church Leaders,
Tonight I received information about a call to prayer organised by the Heads of Churches in Brisbane. This is in response called for by the Premier some weeks ago.
They have called for a launch in Brisbane this Thursday morning in St John's Cathedral at 7.30am. The week of prayer for rain will cover Sunday 5th to Sunday 12th November.
The letter encourages churches in regional centres to hold their own launch or prayer services.
The joint letter from the Heads of Churches of Queensland supporting this represent: The Anglican, Assemblies of God, Baptist Union, Churches of Christ, Greek Orthodox, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, Salvation Army and Uniting churches.
Last week, our secretary of the ICC mailed out to churches a call to a 40 day Prayer time concerning the drought.
With these two calls, I believe it would be good if we can come together in a practical show of unity to respond to the crisis that is hitting not only our state but the whole of Australia.
I am interested therefore in getting some feedback. A number of Pastors already get together for prayer on Fridays. One of these prayer times is at the Baptist Church at 7.00am. This could be a good time for those who can gather to pray, plan and launch a week of prayer in Mackay. Some may prefer a different time. I am open for suggestions. Alternatively we could meet at the same time on Thursday as they are in Brisbane. 7.30am. Would anyone in the city like to volunteer their church for a launch meeting?
Please get back to me with suggestions and comments. We will need to act swiftly.
Yours in Christ,
Euan McDonald
